Oatmeal Cake

Ingredients
Cake batter:
1 cup rolled oats
1 1/4 cup boiling water
1/2 cup butter or margarine
2 eggs
1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 cup flour
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla

Topping:
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup coconut, optional
3/4 cup chopped pecans or other nuts
1/2 cup condensed milk, Carnation

6 tablespoons butter

Instructions
In a large bowl, stir oats and boiling water, add butter and stir until butter melts. Let cool.
Add eggs; beat mixture. Add sugar; beat again.
In small bowl sift flour, soda, cinnamon and salt together. Add dry ingredients and vanilla to large bowl, mix.
Pour in a greased 9 X 13 pan. Bake at 350 F for 32 minutes.

Topping: While cake is baking prepare the topping in a heavy saucepan.
Cream and cook topping ingredients for a few minutes until thick. When cake is baked and hot add topping. Evenly place on the hot baked cake. Place the cake under the broiler until bubbly, for only 1 to 2 minutes.
