Makes 30 cookies
Ingredients
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup light brown sugar
1/2 cup butter, softened or margarine
1 large egg
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 teaspoon anise seed, crushed
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp salt
Topping:
1/4 cup sugar
1 1/8 tsp ground cinnamon
Instructions
Preheat oven to 400 F. Grease two baking sheets.
Using mixer, combined white and brown sugars and butter. Beat at medium speed until light and fluffy. Beat in egg, vanilla and crushed anise seeds.
Combine flour, baking powder, cinnamon and salt in small bowl. Add flour mixture to butter mixture and beat until combined, do not overbeat. Shape dough into 30 inch balls.
Topping:
Combine 1/4 cup sugar and cinnamon in a small shallow bowl. Roll balls in topping mixture, and place 2 inch apart on baking sheet. Flatten cookies with bottom of glass of a flat glass. Bake at 400 F for 8 minutes, until lightly browned and cracked. Cool in pan one minute, remove from pan and cool on wire rack.
