Sesame Chicken in Slow Cooker |
Ingredients
2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breast or thighs
Black pepper, to taste
Honey sauce:
1/3 cup low-salt soya sauce
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup tomato paste
3 tablespoons rice wine vinegar or cider vinegar
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon water
1 tsp sesame oil
1 tsp onion powder or 1 ½ tsp onion flakes
1 tsp sriracha hot chili sauce or Peri Peri Sauce
1 heaping tablespoon cornstarch
1/4 cup water
1/2 tablespoon sesame seeds for garnish
2 medium green onions, chopped for garnish
Cooked rice or Arugula
Instructions
Gently place chicken evenly in the bottom of slow cooker and season with black pepper.
Honey Sauce: In a medium bowl combine soya sauce, honey, tomato paste, vinegar, garlic, 1 tablespoon water, sesame oil, onion powder and hot sauce.
Pour sauce over chicken and cook on high 3 to 4 hours. Add a bit of water if sauce gets too dry.
Remove chicken, leaving the sauce in the slow cooker. Shred chicken with two forks and set aside.
Optional thick sauce: In a small bowl, dissolve cornstarch in remaining 1/4 cup water; add to the slow cooker and stir to combine. Cover and cook on HIGH until slightly thickened, about 15 to 20 minutes.
Return shredded chicken to the slow cooker and mix well.
Serve chicken and sauce over rice or Arugula and top with sesame seeds and green onions.
Optional, add green peppers on top of the chicken before adding honey sauce to slow cooker.
