Ingredients
1 to 2 cups cooked or raw meat or protein such as tofu. Meat choices, beef, pork or chicken. Cut in bite size pieces
2 to 4 cups approx. of mixed vegetables, such as onions, carrots, celery, Bok choy, mushrooms, green onions, peas, broccoli and red peppers. See below for cutting instructions.
Olive or vegetable oil
2 tsp or more Soya sauce
1/2 cup or more Teriyaki sauce
1-2 clove of garlic, minced, optional
Salt and pepper, optional
White or brown rice, optional
Instructions
Cutting vegetables:
Keep each vegetables choice separate, see below for frying instructions.
Vegetables such as onions, carrots, celery and Bok choy are cut on a diagonal.
Vegetables such as mushrooms, green onions or red peppers are chopped or sliced.
Vegetables such as sugar snap peas or frozen peas are left as is.
Vegetables similar to broccoli or cauliflower are separated from the stalks and the tops. The tops are cut in bite size pieces. Keep tops and stalks separate.
Cooking:
Cook rice in a separate pot first. Rice is serve separately from stir fry.
Use a large frying pan or wok with lid. Preheat oil in pan.
Cook raw meat or tofu in oil until cooked and set aside.
Add more oil if required and cook crunchy vegetables over medium heat. Crunchier vegetables examples are mushrooms, carrots and celery slices, any vegetables that will take longer to cook. Cook for 3 - 5 minutes.
Add broccoli stalks and 1-2 tablespoons of water, then put lid on to steam veggies.
Cook until vegetables are partial cooked.
Add rest of vegetables such as broccoli tops, peas, snap peas and leftover vegetables. Any vegetable that cooks fast.
Add soya and Teriyaki sauce.
Cook about 3 minutes. Stirring softly over lower heat.
Lastly, add garlic and cooked tofu or cooked raw meat.
Serve immediately as is or with a side dish of rice.
Optional ideas and tips:
Add a bit of Chinese noodles to your stir fry recipe, cook noodles separately and add just before serving. See noodle package label for noodle instructions.
Serve with a side of white or brown rice. Do not add the rice to your stir fry.
Some vegetables might still be crunchy when serving.
Make yourself some notes if your recipe needs an adjustment.
Meat Tips:
Use 1 to 2 cups of chicken, pork or beef or other protein like fried tofu. Leftover meat is great. Flavor the meat with salt, pepper, garlic if you want. Leftover rotisserie chicken makes a good stir fry.
If meat is raw cook at medium heat in about 2 tablespoons of olive oil until meat is well done. Take meat out of frying pan or wok and put aside in a bowl.
If you are using leftover cooked meat, cut meat in strips or cubes. I had leftover pork so I diced it. The cooked meat will be added to the other ingredients in the last five minutes of cooking.
