Banana Waffles

Ingredients
1 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
2/3 cup whole-wheat flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 tsp. ground allspice or cinnamon
Dash of salt

2 large egg whites
1 large egg, lightly beaten
2 cups low-fat milk
1/2 cup ripe banana, mashed
1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts, optional

Syrup

Instructions
Preheat lightly greased waffle iron. In a large bowl, stir together first 5 ingredients.
In medium bowl, combine eggs, milk, banana and nuts. Add to the first 5 ingredients all at once; stir until just combined.
Using 1 to 1 1/2 cup of batter for each waffle or according to manufacturers instructions, pour the batter into the grids. Close the lid quickly; do not open during baking. Bake according to manufacturers directions. Use a fork to lift the waffle off the grid. If batter becomes too thick, add a little more milk.
Serve hot with syrup.
