1 1/2 lb beef round steak, cut in half inch think strips
1/2 cup flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1/4 cup shortening
28 oz. can tomatoes, tomato liquid and tomatoes separated
1 1/4 cup water
1/2 cup onion
1 small clove garlic, minced
1 tablespoon beef flavoured gravy base
1 1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
2 large green peppers, cut in strips
1- 2 tablespoon flour
6 cups cooked rice
Instructions
Mix flour, salt and pepper in shallow plate. Dip steak strips in flour mixture completely coating steaks. Heat shortening in large frying pan, add steak strips and cook until brown.
Add tomato liquid, water, onion, garlic and beef flavoured gravy base, bring to boil. Cover and simmer for 1 1/4 hours, until meat is tender.
Add Worcestershire sauce and green peppers, cover and simmer for 5 minutes.
If gravy is too thin, mix flour with equal amount of cold water, add to
pan, cook and stir until bubbly.
Cut drained tomatoes, add to pan and cook an extra five minutes.
Serve over cooked rice.
