Gum Drop Gems

Ingredients
¾ cup Carnation milk
1 cup gumdrops, chopped fine
½ cup shortening
½ cup sugar
1 egg
1 cup sifted flour
½ tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla
½ cup chopped nuts

Instructions
Pour milk over gumdrops and let stand.
Beat shortening, sugar, egg and vanilla together; add gumdrop mixture.
Sift together and stir in flour, salt, and baking powder. Add nuts.
Spread in a buttered 9-inch square pan and bake at 350 F for 25-30 minutes.

Variation: When cool, frost with vanilla frosting.
