Ingredients
1 lb ground beef, extra lean preferably
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 chopped onion
1/2 green pepper, chopped
1 5.5 oz. can tomato paste
1 28 oz. can tomatoes
1/2 tsp. oregano
1/2 tsp. thyme
1/2 tsp. basil
1 tsp. salt
Dash red pepper flakes
1 tsp. parsley
1 beef bouillon cube or 2 tablespoons dry sherry
Spaghetti, spaghettini or other pasta
Parmesan cheese
Instructions
Preheat large cast iron frying pan on medium heat. Add a teaspoon of oil if using lean ground meat. Then add ground beef to hot oil. Stir meat often. Cook meat until no longer pink. Drain any fat.
In large pot add one tablespoon oil and preheat. Add onion and green pepper. Cook until vegetables are soft. Add cooked meat, tomato paste, tomatoes, spices and dry sherry. Bring to boil and simmer for 20 minutes uncovered, stirring occasionally. Meanwhile cook spaghetti or other pasta in separate large pot until al dente. Serve sauce over pasta. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese to taste.
Slow cooker method:
Preheat large cast iron frying pan on medium heat. Add a teaspoon of oil if using lean ground meat. Then add ground beef to hot oil. Stir meat often. Cook meat until no longer pink. Drain any fat.
Add all ingredients to slow cooker and stir well. Cover and cook on low for 6 to 7 hours or cook on high for 3 to 4 hours.
Cook spaghetti or other pasta in separate large pot until all dente. Serve sauce over pasta. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese to taste.
Note:
If you are low on oil to cook your meat, use 1/4 tsp of salt sprinkled over the bottom of a preheated cast iron frying pan, wait 30 seconds then add your ground beef. Cook until no longer pink.
